I'd say 800 pixels wide tops, and then however long the comic is.

So what do they mean when they talk about the number of inches? Does that mean how big it will be when they print it?

I believe so. How big it will be when printed at the current resolution.

An image, even though it's in pixels, is also measured in inches. When drawing online you don't really have to worry about the inches part as monitors display in pixles. The inches is generally used for print reference. If someone wants to print the image out for instance.

For a very long time I thought you're supposed to go with the biggest pixel resolution available because it shrinks the pixels down and keeps it from looking like your pictures made out of a bunch of damn squares. I only figured out they're no good for that a few days ago.

So, how do I make a drawing not look like it's made out of a bunch of damn squares after I scan it?

Scan it at a higher dpi. Also, work on your comics at a higher resolution than what you post on the internet. I have 3300x5100 pixels at 300dpi (although it should be 400+) for print and scale it down to 800x1236 for for the website.

I usually work on them on the highest resolution there is. This last comic was shrunk before I was done with it, but I don't see why it makes a difference whether I shrink them before or after I'm done working on them. They'll still end up pixely when I shrink them.

Was it pixely when you were making it?
You might just be using the wrong program.

I'm using the GIMP, and I might get PhotoShop when I get my tax refund.

But more importantly, what do you think of my comic so far? And I'm considering having someone else color my comics. Anyone interested?
