September 8th Update! + Happy Early Anniversary!

♥ Thank you so much to Derek for your added support! ♥
Your kindness has certainly lifted my spirits this week.

In other news, True Magic's 12th anniversary is next week, on the 16th! Unfortunately, there won't be an update next week, since I'm currently working to catch up after last month's setbacks.

So, I'll just say this a bit early:

Thank you for reading True Magic!

Whether you've just discovered the comic (Welcome!), or whether you've been reading since the beginning (You're amazing!), I'm glad you're here. Considering the infinite variety of free entertainment available on the internet, it means a lot that you've chosen to invest some of your precious time and attention in this adventure.

I hope you'll continue to enjoy the story. I'll keep doing my best to make it as good as it can be!

A Drop of Blood (PG-13 - Moderate Violence)

Goal: Steal artifact from temple. Step 1: Steal a jet to get there. Our heroine has some unusual abilities to help her out -- but so do her enemies. Action movie style, fast pacing and striking artwork make this an exciting read.

September 2nd Update!

Here's hoping that September is a better month for everybody. ♥

August 26th Update! + Fission Mailed

As for this month's script organizing project...

Well, I made excellent progress in the first week. (There are some fun moments coming up, and now I'm looking forward to them even more!) Then a stampede of unexpected problems (including a minor injury and a couple hundred dollars of extra expenses) ate up the entire rest of the month.

For context: The True Magic story is my dearest, most important project. It has been my #1 goal for the past several years to clear space in my schedule for the deep focused organizational work that the upcoming chapters require. But I work slowly, and I can't task-switch worth beans. It takes me days of uninterrupted focus to sort out the details of a scene that other writers could throw together in an afternoon.

All that is to say that those few weeks of dedicated writing time were a necessity, not a luxury. I worked for three (3) years with an average of one (1) day off per month in order to scrape them together.

Aaand they're gone.

To say that I feel discouraged would be an understatement. At the same time, I realize that there are so many people in far worse situations right now... I may be back on the Endless Deadline Treadmill with little to show for it, but honestly, I'm blessed to have the opportunity to keep working at all. So, onward we go!

Schedule-wise, I'll probably need to skip occasional comic updates throughout the rest of the year as I try to catch up again.

Thank you for your patience. Stay safe out there. ♥

July 28th Update! + Next Update in a Few Weeks

Page 502 is up! (And the next page is up early for patrons!)

♥ Many cheers to Lulu for becoming the newest True Magic patron! ♥
Thank you for helping me to create more of the comic!

Schedule News: The next few scenes include quite a bit of Important Story Stuff™ that I've been planning for years, and so I need some extra time to make sure it's all done right.

I usually sort out the exact details of a scene a few pages at a time (taking the main points of the plot outline, and refining them into specific dialogue, panel-by-panel action, etc.) -- but the next 12 scenes need to fit together in a way that can only work if I get them all sorted out at once.

So my usual Comic Drawing Time is becoming Auxiliary Scripting Time, and that's what I'll be working on with every free minute for the next few weeks. Wish me luck!

Regular comic page updates will resume sometime in mid-to-late August.

Meanwhile, I'm working as hard as ever on the comic -- there's just a lot more "pre-production" to do right now.

Thank you for your understanding, and please keep taking good care of yourselves.

I'll look forward to seeing you all next month!
